Pilgrimages
A SWWCP pilgrimage across Port Meadow to Christ Church Cathedral was hugely enjoyed by all ten participants from St Ps and St M’s. There is an appetite for more joint walks. An informal sub-committee will be planning future walks. Contact Ann Steadman (St M’s) or Amanda Saville (St P’s) to help plan. Bill Clarke has been organising annual cathedral visits for St P’s for over 10 years. This year’s Autumn trip to Birmingham Cathedral will be open to members of all Partnership churches. Details will be publicised nearer the time.
Lecture Series
The Autumn series in St P’s on Thursdays at 6:30pm will focus on art. Confirmed contributors are art historian Matt Wates (15 Sept) , wood engraver Peter Lawrence (12 Oct) and letter carver John Neilson (9 Nov). The Spring 2024 series will take place on Wednesdays in St M’s. Speaker suggestions welcomed. Contact Edward Wates.
Eco Church
St M’s are concentrating on implementing their Covenant with Creation. The aim is to be carbon neutral by 2030. Smaller groups meet to think about carbon usage, its impact on the world, to share ideas about lifestyle and how we can support one another to make appropriate choices. St M’s are happy to share activities with other partnership churches. It was agreed that St M’s and St P’s would explore together how to reduce dependence on gas and electricity. The North Oxford COP, spearheaded by Michael Taylor (St M’s), is engaging local stakeholders - businesses, community groups, schools - to explore how working together could contribute to slowing climate change.
