In search of the unity for which Christ prayed

Wolvercote Baptist Church

Welcome to the part of the SWWCP website dedicated to Wolvercote Baptist Church. All the other partnersh-p churches have their own websites - see Home page for links.

Wolvercote Baptist Church is a member of the Baptist Union of Great Britain. The Revd Vivien Edwards is the minister. The Deacons are John Harper (treasurer and secretary), Gill Harper and Jill Galloway (Ladies Fellowship). Together, the Deacons and Minister are responsible for the daily running of the church. They bring matters to the church members at bi-monthly meetings that require discussion and discernment.
The Baptist Church has been an important part of Lower Wolvercote for over a hundred years. It is a visible sign of God’s presence in the village, and is appreciated for just being there.

A close-knit congregation comes together weekly for worship which is simple, peaceful and Bible led. We gather round the Lord’s Table monthly for the service of Holy Communion. On Sunday mornings a gentle devotional message is sent round by email and is read over the telephone for those without internet. The Ladies Fellowship meets every Tuesday.

The Partnership has helped us rekindle our mission. Messy Church, Dandelions Mother and Toddler Group and the Monday Lunch Club are now run from our building, with the support of helpers from the other churches of the Partnership and beyond.

During lockdown we have appreciated the prayers of the churches. We feel comforted that we have not been forgotten, but that we are a full part of the Partnership. We also pray for you.

As we come out of lockdown our hope is for a renewed partnership. We look forward to united worship services once again, the Advent service and the Homelessness service, and the Good Friday service in Sommertown.

A few years ago the Partnership asked the whole area, through a questionnaire, what it wanted from the churches. We should continue to respond to the needs of our area. We pray that the new clergy team will form bonds of friendship and service which will support them and strengthen us all as we seek to worship and serve our Lord Jesus Christ together.
